HELP FOR VETERANS

       Fort Sill - Lawton, Oklahoma
                    March, 1999

This was by and far one of my favorite towns I visited when it came
to Gulf War veterans, and even VSO's. I sat in front of the local
Walmart with Dannie Wolf, and his family doing outreach to the
veteran community. I bumped into another fellow vet from141 Sig,
and strangely enough he was very sick.

The radio, TV stations, an local media were so freindly. I also found
that 10,000 Gulf War veterans lived there. A large number had
unexplained rashes, and alot of spouses complained of female
problems that the local Gynecologist dismissed quickly. I surveyed
more than 300 veterans those days in front of Walmart.
    Alot were sick.

Lawton's VA was also quite freindly, having been beaten into submission
by the hard work of Dannie Wolfes group.

However, on the base III Corp., 17th brigade told active duty that
talking to me was a court martial offense. When I stated this during
a TV interview, DOD stepped in quickly to quiet the situation. In the
News paper that day came the announcment that OSAGWI would
be in town in 8 weeks.
