OK, so the trail has led us into the DOD, so here is the first letter to the DPSC dated 7 July 1995.
I am writing to you in the hope that you can help me with my investigation into the truth behind Desert Storm Syndrome. Yes, I do feel my that health has been adversely affected by service in the Gulf during 1991.
My area of concern in writing to you is regardin a vaccine known as plague, manufactured by Miles Cutter in 1990, batch No: 10H03A.
I have written to Miles Cutter (now Bayer) on several occasions and they have always been extremely helpful. However, following on from correspondence that I have had with them I have now found out that your organisation served as the procurement arm for the US military.
I know that the above batch of vaccine, the whole batch, was shipped to a US military supply depot and as you form the procurement side of things, I would like to ask you the following questions:
a. How did this vaccine come to be in the possesion of the UK authorities?
b. Which UK department requested this vaccine from the US authorities?
c. On what date was it passed over to the UI authorities and what address was it shipped to?
d. Whilst this batch of vaccine was in the custody of the US authorities, were any test carrioed out to ensure the safety of the vaccine?
I would be most graetful if you could supply with me with as detailed answers as possible, icluding any copies of relevant documents that you may have regarding the above.
If you are unable to comply with my request for whatever reason I would appreciate it if you could let me know enclosing the address of the relevant freedom of information department.
May I thank you in advance for your help in this matter and I look forward to your reply.
